CLEVELAND – It really was just like any other day for Julie Santos, a long-time CPA. She woke up Sunday morning and sat down with her coffee, then opened up her Facebook feed.
“I have always been a Republican,” admits Santos. “My parents were Republicans and so were their parents. I was born Republican. I’ve always voted along party lines with, well, basically everything. It’s easier than thinking about the issues.”
But that all changed on that fateful Sunday morning when she read a post by her Facebook friend JT Reedworthy. Admittedly, she has never actually met or spoken with Reedworthy, but accepted his friend request since he was a friend of someone she had recently met at a Chamber of Commerce mixer.
“His post was so elegant,” says Santos, “He also had a really witty meme. When he wrote ‘wake up’ it really caught my attention. I woke up. I saw the other side. I am now officially registered as a Democrat.”
